When you think of emo…

When you think of an emo person do you automatically think, cutter? Or do you think goth? Some people don’t take the time to get to know a person that is”emo” before they label them with some stereotypical comment and personality. I am an example of these streotypes. I wear allot of black and hang out with weird people ( no offensse any of u guys), which is apparently emo to some people. But I don’t cut or do any other sick things like that, but I still get called emo.
Write me a comment if you think that it is wrong how people get stereotyped, or if you completely disagree with everything that I have just said!

Hmmmmmm…..not really a comment about your blog but somewhat connected. I happened to be..and still am…a big metal head…probably the biggest enemies of emos : ) I have had some “negative” things said about me when I showed up to concerts because my exterior does not fit the stereotype of a metal head. I think stereotypes get turned ugly when a people who like a certain type of music start dressing or acting a certain way to fit into the stereotype. There are certain concerts which I go to that I might spend an extra minute thinking about what I will wear, but for the most part it does not matter — although you will get more respect in the pit if you wear certain clothes. I think you have to work pretty hard to be goth for example. Goth folks really have to work hard to be goth — Throw on a black shirt and jeans and poof you are dressed for a metal show. But goth and to some degree emo require some effort to “dress-up.” I think that is why people have problems with them. They become characters. Which is cool, but at the shows I have been to that are goth it’s like everybody is trying to be characters and nobody is relaxed — and if you are not dressed like them you automatically can’t fit in.

Emo and for sure goth are exclusive clubs that require a certain outfit and music…metal fans are all about the music and individual groups. Much more accepting of differences. Many diverse personalities. All the goth concerts I go to seem to be filled with sad kids dressing up to escape reality.

    Your move GB.
